Confessions from an Intake Coordinator
I still remember my first call for help… crouched down in the corner of my closet while hearing my child's screams from two rooms over: "Kelly, how am I supposed to do this?"
It's been over six years since I made that call and I'm now the person on the other end of the phone, connecting you with the support you need.
I'm here to tell you that I get it. I've been there. I know the courage it takes to pick up the phone that first time (or the second, or the third) to ask for help. The exhaustion you feel google after google, phone call after phone call, to find someone that fits. I want to tell you how proud I am of you, and that you're not alone.
I can hear the hesitation in your voice when I ask the sometimes-dreaded question, "What prompted you to reach out to us today?" And I promise, whatever the answer to that question is, there is no judgment or shock from the other end of the phone.
At Play Therapy Connection, we work with families, parents, and children from all walks of life and from all kinds of challenging situations. I've heard it all.
I promise to do everything in my power to help you get to the place you need to be, even if it's not with us.
I promise to answer your call with the love and judgment-free listening that you need.
I promise you're doing the right thing by reaching out. I'll be here whenever you need me.
Love, Sharlyn
