About Play Therapy

We provide Synergetic Play Therapy for children and youth age 2-18.

At Play Therapy Connection, every therapist is trained or certified in Synergetic Play Therapy™ (SPT)—a cutting-edge, neurobiology-based model of play therapy. Unlike traditional talk therapy, SPT meets children where they are: in the world of play. Through the safety of the therapeutic relationship and the use of play, children can explore emotions, process experiences, and move toward healing in developmentally appropriate ways.

SPT is both child-directed and therapist-supported, allowing each session to adapt to your child’s individual needs, at their own pace. This flexibility, grounded in the science of nervous system regulation, makes SPT especially effective for children navigating anxiety, trauma, aggression, behavioral challenges, or major life transitions. Our therapists don’t just supervise the play—they are trained to track the emotional content, regulate with the child, and use the play itself as a pathway for long-term change.

The Benefits of Play Therapy

As a parent, you know your child best—and your partnership is essential throughout the therapeutic process. In Synergetic Play Therapy, parents are seen as integral members of the healing team. We keep you updated, supported, and engaged every step of the way.

Children in play therapy with our trained SPT providers develop stronger emotional regulation, improved communication, and greater resilience. You may notice fewer behavioral outbursts, stronger self-esteem, and a deeper connection between you and your child. Because SPT is based in nervous system science and relationship attunement, children don’t just learn new behaviors—they develop internal capacity to manage challenges for life.

And since SPT incorporates mindfulness, attachment theory, emotional safety, and more, it doesn’t just help children survive tough times—it helps them thrive.

About Synergetic Play Therapy™

Every member of our team is either fully certified or actively training in Synergetic Play Therapy™ (SPT)—a distinction that sets us apart. Becoming a Certified Synergetic Play Therapist requires at least two years of intensive study, including 130 hours of coursework and a minimum of 20 hours of supervision focused specifically on applying SPT in clinical settings.

SPT combines the latest research in neuroscience with practical tools that help children regulate their emotions, heal from trauma, and feel more confident in themselves. Some of the core topics mastered in SPT certification include:

  • Understanding nervous system activation and emotional flooding
  • Attachment theory and co-regulation
  • Interoception, mindfulness, and attunement
  • Cultural sensitivity in the playroom
  • Partnering with parents for lasting change
  • Integrating sand, art, and movement into therapy
  • Tracking goals and developmental progress through play

Our commitment to this level of training means your child’s therapist isn’t just “playing”—they are guiding your child through a deeply informed, relational, and evidence-based healing process.
